Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Okayama Castle (Okayama City, Okayama Prefecture) is nicknamed "Crow Castle" for its glossy black exterior resembling a crow. Built by the Ukita clan during the Sengoku and Azuchi-Momoyama periods, it became the castle of the Ikeda clan during the Edo period and governed the castle town. Much of the castle, including the castle tower, was destroyed in air raids during World War II, but was rebuilt in 1966 using reinforced concrete, and the castle tower is now open to the public as a historical exhibit and observation space. The combination of the castle's black exterior with the view of Asahikawa River and Korakuen Garden (one of Japan's Three Great Gardens) is a major attraction, making it a popular photo spot.

– Surrounding scenery (in conjunction with Korakuen Garden): The view of Okayama Castle from Korakuen Garden is a classic. There are even more things to see if you visit both the garden and the castle.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)
- Nearest station: JR Okayama Station. From Okayama Station, it is about a 15-20 minute walk (approximately 1.2km).
- Bus/Tram: Take a local bus or tram within Okayama City, get off at a stop near the castle, and it's just a few minutes' walk. It's also convenient to use the sightseeing loop bus or city loop bus.
- Taxi: Approximately 5-10 minutes from Okayama Station (depending on traffic conditions).
- By car: Paid parking is available in the area. It is convenient to use the parking lots at Korakuen and surrounding facilities, but they may be full during busy times.

- Shopping streets and areas such as Omotemachi, Hokanmachi, and AEON Mall: Convenient for finding food and souvenirs.
– Around JR Okayama Station (Momotaro statue, etc.): Take photos at iconic spots in front of the station.
- If you travel further: Kibiji (Kibitsu Shrine and Kibitsuhiko Shrine) and Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter (about 20-30 minutes by train) are also within day trip distance.
Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)
- Crowds: It tends to get crowded during the cherry blossom season in spring, the autumn foliage season, Golden Week, and summer vacation. In particular, many tourists visit the park in conjunction with Korakuen. Visiting early in the morning or in the evening will give you a more relaxed view.
- Manners: Eating and drinking are prohibited in many areas of the museum, and touching the exhibits is strictly prohibited. Regarding photography, there may be restrictions on the use of flash and tripods, so please follow any notices posted on-site.
- Barrier-free access: Some reconstructed castle towers are equipped with elevators, but the remains and stone steps on the perimeter have many steps, making it difficult to move around in wheelchairs or with strollers. Please check the facility's barrier-free access information in advance.
- Weather and season: It can be hot and humid in the summer and windy in the winter, so be sure to dress appropriately and stay hydrated. In rainy weather, there are areas where you are likely to get wet, so bring an umbrella and rain gear.
