Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Nissan Stadium (Kohoku-ku, Yokohama) is one of Japan's leading large-scale multi-purpose stadiums, known as a venue for large-scale events such as soccer, rugby, and concerts. Originally built as the "Yokohama International Stadium," it later became known as "Nissan Stadium" through naming rights. It is one of Japan's largest stadiums, capable of accommodating approximately 70,000 spectators, and has hosted numerous international events, including the 2002 FIFA World Cup final. It enjoys high recognition as a main venue for domestic and international sports and music events.

Highlights

  • Huge seating and an immersive experience: The large upper and lower seating areas surrounding the pitch offer an exciting viewing experience. During matches and concerts, you can feel the sense of unity throughout the entire stadium.
  • A historical stage: It has the "weight" of having hosted important matches such as international games, World Cups, and Rugby World Cups. It is a sacred place for sports fans.
  • Diverse Events: In addition to professional soccer and rugby, a wide variety of events are held, including large-scale concerts and local events.
  • Location integrated with surrounding green spaces: The area around the stadium is equipped with parks and green spaces, allowing you to enjoy walks and picnics before and after matches.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)

  • Nearest station:Approximately 15-20 minutes on foot from JR/Yokohama Municipal Subway "Shin-Yokohama Station" (shuttle buses may be available during events).
  • How to get there by train:Access from Tokyo is excellent, as it is a stop on the JR Yokohama Line and the Tokaido Shinkansen. Transfers are possible from Yokohama Station and other stations via JR and the municipal subway.
  • bus:Temporary buses and shuttle buses often operate on event days, so please check the official website or event information in advance.
  • car:There are parking lots nearby, but capacity is limited and they tend to fill up quickly during events. We recommend using public transportation. Please allow ample time for departure to avoid traffic congestion.
  • Taxi/Ride-hailing:There are taxi stands around the venue, but they tend to get crowded immediately after the event ends, so it's a good idea to decide on your destination and meeting time beforehand.

Estimated stay (estimated time required)

  • Attending a game or concert: Depending on the event, it's a good idea to allow a total of 3 to 5 hours, including travel, watching the event, and entering/exiting the venue.
  • Stadium tour (if available): Approximately 1 to 1.5 hours (may vary depending on availability, so advance booking and confirmation are recommended).
  • Short visit including exploring the surrounding area and having a meal: Approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour (if taking photos or viewing the exterior).

Nearby spots

  • Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum: A popular food museum within walking distance. Perfect for meals before or after a game, or for sightseeing.
  • Yokohama Arena: A large-scale concert venue. Depending on the event schedule, it's possible to attend multiple events in a row (within walking distance).
  • Shin-Yokohama Park/Nissan Field (surrounding parks): Green spaces convenient for strolling and light exercise.
  • Central Yokohama (Minato Mirai, etc.): Approximately 10-20 minutes by train. Ideal for combining with sightseeing.

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)

  • congestion:During popular games and large concerts, train stations, surrounding roads, and entrance/exit areas become extremely crowded. If you want to avoid the crowds on your way home, we recommend either leaving just before the end of the event or shifting your travel time slightly.
  • Tickets/Admission:Electronic tickets are becoming more common. Entry procedures and restrictions on belongings (large bags, dangerous items, etc.) vary depending on the event, so please check the organizer's instructions in advance.
  • Food and drink / Garbage:Eating and drinking are generally permitted inside the venue, but please be sure to use designated areas and observe proper etiquette. Please separate your trash and dispose of it in the designated areas.
  • smoking:Smoking is generally prohibited both indoors and outdoors, or only permitted in designated smoking areas. Please smoke only in designated areas.
  • weather:Since some seats are not covered, don't forget to bring rain gear, a hat, sunscreen, and water to protect yourself from strong sunlight.
  • Coming by car:Parking is limited, and surrounding roads are prone to congestion. We recommend using public transportation. If you must come by car, please check the official parking reservation system and information.
  • Consideration for local residents:Loud noises late into the night and street parties are a nuisance to the neighbors. Please be mindful of litter and noise.

*The latest event information, access methods, stadium tours, and admission rules will be updated regularly on the official website and in the organizer's announcements. Please be sure to check the official information before attending.
