Beppu Tower is a landmark observation tower in Beppu City, Oita Prefecture, and a tourist spot offering panoramic views of Beppu city and Beppu Bay. It was developed as a symbol of the city after the period of rapid economic growth, and has been popular for promoting local tourism and for its nighttime illuminations. It is roughly 100 meters tall, and together with the observation floor and surrounding parks and commercial facilities, it offers visitors beautiful views and photogenic scenery. Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)

  • Nearest station: JR Beppu Station is the nearest major train station. It is within walking distance from the station, and can also be accessed by local bus or taxi.
  • Bus/Car: You can use the tourist buses and local buses in Beppu city. From Oita Airport, you can take the airport shuttle bus to Beppu, which takes approximately one hour (varies depending on the time of day).   • Estimated distance: It's about a 10-15 minute walk from JR Beppu Station, but this will vary depending on your walking speed and route. By taxi, it's only a few minutes.

Nearby spots

  • Beppu Hell Tour (Sea Hell, Blood Pond Hell, etc.): Beppu's most famous tourist attraction. Easily accessible by car or bus.
  • Takegawara Onsen: A historic public bath popular with tourists. There are also places where you can experience a sand bath.
  • Beppu Park: Recommended for strolling and seasonal cherry blossom viewing. Also a convenient walking course around the tower.
  • Kannawa Onsen Town: Enjoy the atmospheric hot spring town, steamed cuisine, and foot baths.
  • Restaurants and souvenir shops in the city: There are many stores selling Beppu specialty dishes, local seafood, hot spring manju, and more.

  • Busy periods: The park tends to be crowded during tourist seasons such as Golden Week, summer vacation, and the New Year holidays. There may be waiting times at the observation deck and nearby parking lots and restaurants.
  • Poor visibility due to weather: There are days when visibility is poor due to rain, thick fog, yellow sand, PM, etc. If you are planning to see the view, it is best to check the weather forecast and choose a sunny day.
