Tagonoura is a coastal and port area facing Suruga Bay in Fuji City, Shizuoka Prefecture. It's a scenic spot that has long been the subject of utamakura (poetry pillow) and waka poetry, and is known for a famous poem from the Manyoshu: "When I step out into Tagonoura, I see snow falling on the white, high peaks of Fuji." Its greatest attraction is the magnificent view of Mount Fuji over Suruga Bay on a clear day. It also serves as a fishing port, where you can enjoy the seafood of Suruga Bay, such as shirasu (whitebait) and sakura shrimp. The unique landscape, with its mix of industrial areas and port facilities, also highlights the contrast between the sea and Mount Fuji.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)
- Nearest train station: JR Tokaido Main Line "Fuji Station" or "Yoshiwara Station". From either station, it is about a 10-20 minute taxi ride (depending on traffic conditions).
- Bus: There are buses within Fuji City that go to the area, but please note that the number of buses is limited, so we recommend checking the timetable.
- By car: Accessible from expressways such as the Tomei and Shin-Tomei Expressways. Approximately 15-30 minutes by car from the nearest interchange (depending on the starting point). Parking is available around the fishing port and in parks, but may be crowded on weekends.
- Taxis and rental cars: These are convenient when public transportation is inconvenient or when traveling for photography or meals.

- Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha Shrine (Fujinomiya City) - Approximately 30 minutes by car. An ancient shrine associated with worship of Mount Fuji.
- Miho no Matsubara (Shimizu/Shizuoka City) - Approximately 40-60 minutes by car. This World Heritage Site is famous for its pine forest and the view of Mt. Fuji across the sea.
- Local fishmongers, markets, and fisheries cooperative direct sales outlets - You can buy and taste fresh whitebait, sakura shrimp, and more.
- Yoshiwara-juku (a post town on the Tokaido) - an area where you can take a historical stroll (within Fuji City).
- Mount Fuji World Heritage Center (located in various locations in Fujinomiya and Fuji City) - Exhibition facility related to Mount Fuji.
Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)
- Obey access restrictions and safety signs: There are areas of fishing ports and port facilities that are off-limits. Be sure to follow the fences and signs.
- Protection from sea breezes and cold: The wind can be strong at the seaside, making the temperature feel lower. Be sure to protect yourself from the cold, especially in winter and early mornings.
- Visibility varies depending on the weather: Mount Fuji is best visible from winter to spring when the air is clear. In summer, there are many days when it is difficult to see due to clouds and mist.
- Crowds: Parking lots and photo spots tend to be crowded on weekends, holidays, and during the evening hours. Please consider using public transportation or leaving early.
- Garbage and etiquette: Please observe basic etiquette at beaches and parks, such as taking your trash home with you and keeping noise to a minimum.
- Drone photography: Please refrain from flying drones without permission as it may interfere with port and fishing activities. Be sure to check in advance.
- Food, Drinks, and Fresh Fish: Fresh fish eaten raw can easily become contaminated depending on the season and storage conditions, so please check the source and the reliability of the store.
(Additional Information) When visiting, it is a good idea to check the local information boards and Fuji City tourist information in advance. The best times to take photos are during the early morning sunrise, the magic hour in the evening, or on a clear winter day.
