Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Itakiso Shrine, located in Wakayama City, Wakayama Prefecture, is an ancient shrine that has long been cherished by locals as a shrine dedicated to the "god of trees." It has deep ties to the local forestry, timber, and landscaping industries, and traditions of beliefs and festivals related to wood and tree planting have been passed down through generations. The shrine grounds retain a tranquil atmosphere, and its charm lies in the fact that you can feel the Japanese aesthetic just by walking through the shrine grove and approach.
