Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Hirakubozaki is a cape located at the tip of the Hirakubo Peninsula in Ishigaki City, Okinawa Prefecture, and is known for the Hirakubozaki Lighthouse. Located near the northern tip of the island, it is a great viewing spot offering a panoramic view of the surrounding coral reefs and blue ocean. Since ancient times, the lighthouse was erected here to mark fishing routes and ensure the safety of maritime traffic, and today it is visited by many drivers and tourists, and is attractive for its crystal clear waters and the horizon that stretches into the distance.
Highlights
- Hirakubozaki Lighthouse: The contrast between the white lighthouse and the surrounding grassland and sea makes for a great photo. There is an observation space around the lighthouse where you can enjoy a nearly 360-degree panorama.
- Blue and green gradientThe color of the sea changes constantly due to the tides and the coral on the seabed, and you can enjoy colors ranging from emerald green to deep cobalt blue.
- Horizon and distant viewOn clear days, you can see the ocean for miles, and on windy days, the seascape with white waves is impressive. The sunrise and sunset views are also beautiful.
- Nature observation and bird watchingDepending on the season, you can observe migratory birds and seabirds, and the grasslands and coastal nature are also highlights.
- Stargazing: At night, there are fewer city lights, making it a good time to observe the stars (please be mindful of the weather and safety when visiting).
