Matsuo Taisha Shrine (also known as Matsuo Taisha) is an ancient shrine located in Nishikyo Ward, Kyoto City, and is known as one of Kyoto's leading shrines associated with sake brewing. The main deity is Oyamakui-no-Kami, and since ancient times there has been faith in the blessings of the mountains and water, and the shrine has been widely revered since the Heian period. The shrine grounds contain a famous spring known as "Kamenoi" and rows of sake barrels donated by brewers, and are a major attraction for many visitors who come to pray for the protection of sake breweries and for the success of new sake. The natural scenery changes with the seasons, and the grounds are particularly beautiful during the fresh greenery of spring and the colorful leaves of autumn, making it a great place for a stroll.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)
- Nearest station: 3-5 minutes walk from Matsuo-Taisha Station on the Hankyu Railway Arashiyama Line. Transfer from the Hankyu Kyoto Line to the Arashiyama Line.
- By JR: Take a bus or taxi from Saga-Arashiyama Station or Uzumasa Station on the JR San'in Main Line (Sagano Line), then walk for about 20-30 minutes from Saga-Arashiyama Station.
From Kyoto Station: Approximately 20-30 minutes by train (JR or Hankyu line + transfer), or you can also access by bus or taxi (travel time varies depending on the line and time of day).
– Car/Parking: There are paid parking lots in the area, but since the roads around the temple grounds are narrow in some places, we recommend using public transportation. The parking lot may fill up during busy times.

- Crowds: The shrine gets very crowded during New Year's visits, New Year's, Setsubun, autumn foliage season, and festivals. If you want to avoid the crowds, consider visiting on a weekday or early in the morning.
- Manners: Shrines are religious facilities. Please pay attention to the etiquette when praying at the worship hall, when washing your hands in the water basin, and when placing offerings in the offering box. Do not enter any restricted areas within the shrine grounds, and be careful not to disturb the ceremonies.
- Photography: Generally, photography is permitted within the temple grounds, but there are some places and situations where photography is prohibited, such as during festivals and inside the main hall. Please follow the directions of the priests and signs.
- Footing and clothing: There are some slippery areas in the gardens and stone steps. Be especially careful on rainy days and we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes.
- Drinking and littering: Please behave responsibly within the sacred grounds. Please cooperate by eating, drinking and taking your litter with you.
- Seasonal notes: In autumn, many tourists come to see the autumn leaves, and parking lots and surrounding roads become congested. In winter, take precautions against the cold. The number of tourists also increases during the spring flower season.
