Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Omi Jingu Shrine is a shrine located in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, and is notable for its main deity, the ancient Emperor Tenchi (who is worshipped here). Emperor Tenchi is known as a figure with ties to the Japanese calendar and poetry, and as such, the shrine is popularly associated with waka poetry, Hyakunin Isshu, and karuta. The shrine grounds feature a relatively modern shrine building, a peaceful approach, and a grove of trees, and are attractive for their beautiful scenery during the cherry blossom season in spring and the autumn foliage season.
