Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
The National Diet Building is the central facility of Japan's legislative branch, located in Nagatacho, Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo. Its official name is "Kokkīgijido." The current building was constructed from the end of the Taisho period to the early Showa period, and was completed in 1936 (Showa 11). It features a stately stone exterior and a central tower (approximately 65m), and the interior design, including the entrance hall and main conference hall, also harmonizes Western-style architecture of the time with Japanese elements.
Historically, it has been an important political stage, and its charm lies in its architectural beauty, stately atmosphere, and the opportunity to experience the political scene up close. As it is located in the center of the city, it is also enjoyable to stroll around the surrounding government buildings and gardens.
