Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Yozawa Valley is a valley that spreads out among the mountains of Akiruno City, Tokyo, and is an attractive spot for its natural scenery, surrounded by clear mountain streams and deep forests. The river that flows through the valley has long been a popular fishing spot, and it is particularly famous as an area for fly fishing. Although it is relatively close to the city, you can enjoy mountain stream fishing, valley walks, and forest bathing, so it is popular with people seeking nature during the holiday season and on weekends.
Highlights
- Clear streams and mountain stream scenery: The scenery changes with the seasons, with crystal clear water, moss-covered rocks, and stream-side paths. Perfect for taking photos or taking a leisurely stroll.
- Fishing (Yozawa Fishing Spot): Yozawa Valley is a managed fishing spot with a fly fishing area where you can enjoy mountain stream fishing for rainbow trout, yamame trout, etc. Permission (fishing permit and fee) is required to fish.
- Seasonal nature: The scenery changes with each season, from the refreshing fresh greenery (around May), to escaping the heat in summer, to the autumn leaves (around November). In early spring, you can also see wildflowers.
- Stream walks and picnics: Relax on the riverside promenades and rest areas (however, fires and littering are prohibited except in designated areas).
Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)
- Nearest station: Musashi-Itsukaichi Station on the JR Itsukaichi Line.
- Bus: There is a bus service from Musashi-Itsukaichi Station heading towards Yozawa (please check the timetable in advance as there are few buses). There is a place where you can walk from the bus stop to the entrance of the valley.
- By car: From central Tokyo, it takes about 60 to 90 minutes via the Chuo Expressway or the Ken-O Expressway (this may vary depending on your starting point and traffic conditions). There are parking lots around the valley, but they are limited in number, so we recommend arriving early on weekends.

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)
- Crowds: The area tends to be crowded on weekends during the autumn foliage season and tourist season, and there are restrictions on parking and the number of buses available. Please leave early and allow plenty of time for your trip.
- Fishing rules: When fishing, be sure to follow the rules of the administrator, obtain a fishing permit (ticket), and check the no-fishing areas and days. Rules must also be observed for fishing outside fishing areas and the handling of released fish.
- Safety precautions: The rocks in the stream are slippery, and the current can be rapid when the water level rises. Wear non-slip shoes and do not push yourself too hard when the water level rises or the weather is bad.
- Nature Conservation and Manners: Always take your trash with you, use fire only in designated areas, do not harm plants or living creatures, and do not trespass on private property. Please follow local rules.
- Seasonal precautions: In summer, take precautions against heat and insects (mosquitoes, black flies, ticks), and in winter, beware of frozen roads and closed areas. Mobile phone signals may be unstable depending on the location.
