Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

The Aomori Museum of Art is a prefectural art museum located in Aomori City, and opened in 2006. The building is known for its modern design that takes into consideration the Aomori climate, and is characterized by its open white exterior and site layout that harmonizes with green spaces. The museum combines permanent and special exhibitions, showcasing a wide range of works, from contemporary art to works by artists with ties to the local area.

It is particularly famous for housing and exhibiting a collection of works by Aomori-born contemporary artist Yoshitomo Nara, and is also attractive for its large outdoor sculptures (such as the "Aomori Dog") and interactive exhibits that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike. The architecturally designed spatial presentation and the harmony between sculptures and paintings leave a strong impression on visitors.
