Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Kadowaki Suspension Bridge is a tourist suspension bridge that spans Jogasaki Coast (Jogasaki) in Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture. It is located on a cliff facing the Pacific Ocean, and its greatest attraction is that from the bridge you can enjoy a close-up view of the dynamic scenery created by the rugged reefs, azure sea, and splashing waves. It is maintained together with the promenade (Jogasaki Coast Promenade), and has long been a popular spot for nature walks, photography, and strolls to feel the sea breeze.

Highlights

  • Spectacular view from the suspension bridge: You can see the steep sea cliffs, reefs, and deep blue ocean, and feel the power of the waves up close. The transparency of the ocean and the appearance of the waves change during the day, and at dusk the colors of the sky and sea are beautifully dyed.
  • Promenade (Jogasaki Coast Promenade): You can observe the diverse terrain and flora while walking along the coastal promenade. The walking route is undulating and dotted with observation spots.
  • Photo spot: The suspension bridge itself is a picturesque subject, and the seascape taken from the bridge or the surrounding cliffs is a popular photo spot.
  • Nature observation: Enjoy the changing faces of nature with the seasons, including sea creatures, seabirds, and coastal plants.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)

  • Nearest station: Jogasaki-kaigan Station or Izu-Kogen Station on the Izu Kyuko Line. Both stations are within walking distance, but Jogasaki-kaigan Station is slightly closer.
