Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Akasaka Palace State Guest House (official name: Akasaka Palace State Guest House) is Japan's international reception facility located in Minato Ward, Tokyo, and is the official state guesthouse for welcoming foreign dignitaries. It features a neo-baroque exterior reminiscent of a Western palace and an extravagant interior, complete with gold leaf, lavish chandeliers, marble, intricate carvings, and stained glass, making it a quintessential example of Western-style architecture in Japan. Constructed between the end of the Meiji period and the Taisho period, it has since been used to entertain state guests. In recent years, it has undergone preservation and restoration, and there are opportunities to view the interior and gardens through public openings and guided tours (opening times are subject to change, so please check the official website for the latest information).
