Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Moegi Village is a small themed village located in Kiyosato, Takane-cho, Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, that blends seamlessly into the natural surroundings of the Kiyosato Plateau. It's dotted with log cabin-style shops, cafes, galleries, craft studios, and restaurants, and is characterized by the enjoyment of strolling among the forest and flowers. Developed alongside the resort development of Kiyosato, it's a popular tourist spot for a wide range of people, from families to couples and solo travelers, as it allows visitors to casually enjoy local handicrafts, crafts, and gourmet food.

Highlights

  • The atmosphere of a village lined with log houses: The grounds are lined with small wooden buildings and have walking paths that are perfect for taking photos. The scenery changes with each season.
  • Cafes and restaurants: There are several establishments offering menus using local ingredients and specialty desserts, allowing you to spend a relaxing time here.
  • Craft Gallery: There are workshops and shops selling handmade items such as woodwork, glass, and cloth accessories, so it's fun to look for works by artists and souvenirs.
  • Chapels and photo spots: There are many photo spots scattered around, such as small chapels, flower beds, and benches, so you can enjoy taking photos while walking around.
  • Seasonal Garden: The flowers are beautiful from spring to autumn, and the scenery is especially captivating with the fresh greenery, summer flowers, and autumn leaves.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)

  • Train: The nearest station is Kiyosato Station on the JR Koumi Line. From the station, it's a few minutes by taxi or a 15-25 minute walk (walking time may vary depending on the slope and weather).
  • By car: Accessible via the Chuo Expressway. Take Nagasaka IC, Sudama IC, etc., and then take the national and prefectural roads (travel time varies greatly depending on the starting point and traffic conditions). There is a parking lot on the premises, but it may be full during peak periods.
  • Buses: Seasonal shuttles and sightseeing buses may operate. Please check schedules and information in advance.

Estimated stay (estimated time required)

  • A quick stroll: about 1 hour (taking photos and browsing shops)
  • Relaxing stay including meals and cafe visits: 2-3 hours
  • Day trip plan combining sightseeing in the surrounding area: Half day to full day (recommended to combine with other spots in Kiyosato)

Nearby spots

  • Seisenryo: A famous spot known for its Jersey cow soft serve ice cream and observation deck.
  • Kiyosato Plateau (Makiba Park, etc.): Enjoy plateau walks and ranch experiences.
  • Kiyosato Terrace (open seasonally): Viewing spot and resort facilities.
  • Nearby hiking trails and art museums: If the weather is good, there are many trails where you can enjoy the scenery of the Yatsugatake Mountains.

Things to be aware of (crowding, etiquette, seasonal precautions, etc.)

  • Crowds: The area is extremely crowded during Golden Week, summer vacation, autumn foliage season, and weekends. Please allow plenty of time as waiting times may occur at parking lots and restaurants.
  • Business hours: Business hours for shops and restaurants vary by store. Some stores may have reduced hours or close during the winter, so we recommend checking their official website or calling ahead to confirm.
  • Climate: Kiyosato is at a high altitude, so temperatures are often lower than on the plains, even at the same time of year. It can get chilly in the mornings and evenings in spring and autumn, so be sure to bring warm clothing. Be aware of sudden changes in the weather.
  • Nature and Manners: Flower beds and shrubbery on the premises are protected. Please observe good manners, such as not entering restricted areas, taking your trash with you, and following the designated rules for pets (keeping them on a leash and checking whether they are allowed inside the store).
  • Payment: Smaller shops may prefer cash, so it's a good idea to check in advance whether they accept cards or electronic payments.

To ensure a pleasant visit, check the official website or social media for the latest information (opening hours, event information, temporary closures, etc.) before you visit. Enjoy the seasonal scenery and local flavors in this tranquil village where nature and crafts coexist in harmony.
