The Wakimachi Udatsu streetscape (Mima City, Tokushima Prefecture) is a well-preserved streetscape of merchant houses from the Edo to Meiji periods, and its most distinctive feature is the rows of houses with fire walls and decorative small walls called "udatsu" on the roofs.Udatsu were originally structures to prevent fires from spreading to neighboring houses, but they gradually took on decorative functions and developed as symbols of wealth and family status.
The streets, which retain traditional designs such as cobblestones, lattices, namako walls, and storehouses, have a gentle atmosphere and convey the atmosphere of a commercial town from the Edo to Meiji periods to the present day. The charm of this area is that you can enjoy the townscape in a relaxed atmosphere without relying on the bustle of tourist destinations.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)
- Train + Bus/Taxi: Access by bus or taxi from the nearest JR station (stations around Mima City). As these are local routes, there are not many trains or buses, so we recommend checking the timetable in advance.
- car: It is generally about 50 to 60 minutes by car from Tokushima city (varies depending on road conditions). In most cases, it takes about 15 to 30 minutes from the nearest highway interchange, so it is convenient to access by car. There is a parking lot for tourists in town, but it may be full during busy times.
- Sightseeing bus tours: If you visit on a sightseeing bus or a day trip, you can efficiently visit the surrounding spots as well.

- Feet and steps: There are many cobblestone streets and uneven ground, so we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. There are some areas where it may be difficult for wheelchairs or strollers to move around.
