Chichibu Festival Hall (Chichibu City, Saitama Prefecture)

Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
The Chichibu Festival Hall is a facility that showcases the festival culture of the Chichibu region, including the Chichibu Night Festival (Chichibu Shrine's annual festival), through permanent exhibits. The Chichibu Night Festival is a town festival with a long history, known for its spectacular floats, fireworks, and musical accompaniment, and has been designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan. The hall's greatest attraction is that you can experience the excitement of the festival all year round through life-size float displays and video and mechanical device reproductions. You can experience the "festival atmosphere" regardless of the season, so you can learn about Chichibu's traditional culture even if you can't make it to the actual festival.

Highlights
- Life-size float display: A display of floats actually used in festivals and their decorations (send-off curtains, sculptures, etc.). You can see every detail up close.
- Karakuri and dynamic exhibits: The movements of the floats and the procession of the floats are recreated using sound, lighting, and video, allowing you to experience the realism of the festival.
- Video and panel explanations: The history of the Chichibu Night Festival, the structure of the floats, and explanations of the music are all clearly displayed.
- Photo and Document Corner: Contains photographs of past festivals, costumes, tools, and other materials. It is also interesting from the perspective of festival research.
– Miniatures/Models: Model stalls and layout diagrams make it easy to understand how things work.
- Special exhibitions and experience corners (limited time only): There is a corner where you can take commemorative photos wearing a happi coat, and there are also workshops for children (check official information for dates and times).

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)
- Crowds during festivals: The Chichibu Night Festival (early December) is particularly crowded. The hall itself tends to be crowded, and public transportation and surrounding roads are also very congested, so we recommend arriving early.
- Consideration for the exhibits: The food stalls and costumes are valuable cultural assets, so please follow the rules, such as not touching the exhibits and avoiding flash photography (whether photography is permitted inside the museum varies depending on the location and exhibit).
- Seasonal precautions: Even in Chichibu city, it gets cold in winter. Even if you are visiting an indoor exhibit, please take precautions against the cold when going to and from the exhibit. The number of tourists increases during the spring moss phlox and autumn foliage seasons.
- Facility closing days and opening hours: Regular holidays, temporary closures, and opening hours may change. Please check the official website or call the facility before visiting for the latest information.
- Barrier-free access and facilities: Please check in advance if you wish to use a wheelchair or stroller. The aisles may become narrow when the venue is crowded.
– Parking and Transportation: Parking lots are often full during peak tourist seasons and on festival days, so please consider using public transportation and arriving early.

(Note) The latest opening hours, admission fees, and availability of special exhibitions and experiences are subject to change. Please check the Chichibu Festival Hall's official website or Chichibu City Tourism Information for the latest information before visiting.
