Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Fukuchiyama Castle is a castle ruin located in the center of Fukuchiyama City, Kyoto Prefecture, and dates back to a castle built during the Sengoku period. It is said to have been built by the Sengoku daimyo Akechi Mitsuhide as a base for his conquest of Tamba, and the castle ruins still contain stone walls, moats, and a restored castle tower. The current castle tower was restored during the Showa period, and the interior is open to the public as a museum displaying castle history and local materials.
The castle ruins are located overlooking the city, and from the observation deck you can get a panoramic view of Fukuchiyama city and the Yura River basin. The cherry blossoms in spring and the autumn leaves are beautiful, and the scenery changes with the seasons, making it a great tourist spot for history buffs as well as for strolling and taking photos.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)
- Nearest station: JR Sanin Main Line, Fukuchiyama Station (accessible on foot from Fukuchiyama Station)
- Walking: Approximately 15 minutes on foot from Fukuchiyama Station (depending on your physical strength and route).
- Bus/Taxi: Accessible from the station by city bus or taxi. Please check the timetable as buses may be limited in number.
- By car: There are paid parking lots and municipal parking lots in the area. They may fill up on weekends and during peak tourist seasons, so please arrive with plenty of time or consider using public transportation.

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)
- Crowds: The number of visitors increases during cherry blossom season, autumn foliage season, Golden Week, and other consecutive holidays. If you want to take your time taking photos and enjoying the view, we recommend visiting on a weekday or early in the morning.
- Manners: The stone walls, moats, and plantings of the castle ruins are important cultural heritage. Please observe basic manners, such as not entering restricted areas, taking your trash with you, and following the rules when bringing pets.
- Footing: There are many slopes and stairs within the castle grounds, and some stone steps can be slippery. Please wear comfortable shoes.
- Weather and seasons: Summer can be hot, and winter can be cold and windy. Please prepare appropriate clothing and equipment for the weather (drinks, umbrellas, and cold weather gear).
