Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Hakuba Ski Jump Stadium (Hakuba Village, Kitaazumi District, Nagano Prefecture) is a ski jumping competition facility that was built as one of the main venues for the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. Having hosted the Winter Olympics, it has since hosted domestic and international competitions, training camps, and general tourism. Its distinctive features include a group of jumping ramps and spectator stands against the majestic backdrop of the Northern Alps, as well as a viewing area for tourists and an event venue. Another attraction is the unique scenery and activities that can be enjoyed throughout the year, with competitions and spectators in the winter and artificial turf for practice and events in the summer.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)
- Nearest station: JR Oito Line, Hakuba Station. First, travel to Hakuba Station, then take a local bus or taxi.
- Bus: From Hakuba Station, you can take the village bus or a tourist bus to the bus stop around the ski jumping stadium. Times and routes change depending on the season, so we recommend checking in advance.
- By car: Accessible by car from the center of Hakuba Village. Parking is available on and around the site, but may be full during tournaments and peak periods.
- Taxis and rental cars: If you have a lot of luggage or if there are few taxis running, it is convenient to use a taxi. We also recommend combining your trip with sightseeing in the area by renting a car.
- Seasonal Note: In winter, you may need winter tires or chains due to frozen roads and snow accumulation. Public transportation operations are also easily affected by the weather, so please plan ahead.
Estimated stay (estimated time required)
- Short visit: 30-45 minutes (photography and viewing of the observation deck and the stadium area)
- Lean sightseeing: 1.5 to 3 hours (including reading the exhibits and explanations, walking around the area, and taking photos)
- Tournament viewing and program participation: Half a day to a full day (depending on competition schedule and event content)

- Happoone (Happoone Ski Resort/Gondola): A popular area where you can enjoy hiking and skiing throughout the year.
- Tsugaike Kogen: A tourist spot where you can explore the plateau using lifts and ropeways.
- Hakuba Onsenkyo: There are many hot spring inns and public baths scattered around the area, perfect for soaking in the hot springs after watching the games.
- Oide Suspension Bridge and Hakuba Village Nature Trail: Spots where you can relax and enjoy nature.
- Museums and archives around Hakuba Ski Jumping Stadium: Facilities where you can learn about the history of the region and sports (please check opening hours).
Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)
- Crowds: On tournament days and during the busy winter season (New Year's and long weekends), the parking lots and viewing areas will be very crowded. Please consider using public transportation or arriving early.
- Spectator etiquette: Please watch from the designated viewing area so as not to disturb the athletes' practice or competition, and refrain from nuisance behavior such as shouting or flashing flashing lights.
- Entry restrictions: To ensure safety, there are restricted areas. Please follow the instructions of staff and posted notices.
- Weather and clothing: As the high altitude means strong winds and cold weather, it's important to take precautions against the cold regardless of the season. In winter, wear warm clothing and non-slip shoes, and even in summer, be aware of sudden changes in the weather.
- Photography/Drones: Drones and other unmanned aircraft may be restricted by competition rules or local regulations. Please check in advance and refrain from flying if you do not have permission.
