Arayayama Shrine (Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture)
Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Arayayama Shrine is a shrine located in Fujiyoshida City, and is said to have played a part in Mount Fuji worship (Fuji faith) since ancient times. Although the details of its founding are unclear, it has long been a place of worship for people who worship Mount Fuji. Its appeal lies in the tranquil forest surrounding the shrine grounds, and the harmony of the torii gate, shrine building, and the view of Mount Fuji.
The relatively calm atmosphere makes it popular with people seeking a quieter place to worship, different from the tourist-filled surrounding spots. Some shrines offer goshuin stamps and amulets, and many people visit for both religious and sightseeing reasons.
