Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Kakegawa Castle is a castle located in Kakegawa City, Shizuoka Prefecture, with roots in castles built between the Sengoku and Edo periods. During the Edo period, it flourished as a castle town, and the current castle tower was restored using wood based on historical documents, allowing visitors to feel the castle's original dignity. Stone walls, moats, a restored palace, and gardens are also maintained, and inside the castle, armor and documents are exhibited, and historical commentary is given. The changing scenery throughout the seasons (cherry blossoms, autumn leaves, etc.) and the view from the castle tower are also highlights.
Highlights
- Restored Wooden Castle Tower: The castle tower has been restored using traditional construction methods and is open to the public. You can learn about its history through its original structure and exhibits. The top floor offers a great view of the city and distant mountains.
