Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Kinchakuda is a famous spot named after the riverbed of the Komagawa River in Hidaka City, Saitama Prefecture, which is surrounded by a shape resembling a drawstring bag. It is known nationwide, especially for the clusters of red spider lilies that bloom in the fall. The scenery created by the wide grassland and flowing river changes with the seasons, making it an ideal area for strolls and picnics. The Kinchakuda Red Spider Lily Festival is held every fall, attracting many visitors.

Highlights

  • Large clusters of red spider lilies: Best time to see them is mid- to late September. The sight of the red flowers spreading across the riverbank is breathtaking and a popular photo spot.
  • Walking path/boardwalk: Enjoy nature while walking along the riverside promenade. You can also enjoy observing seasonal wildflowers and birds.
  • Picnic area: There is a large grassy area where families and groups can relax (although it may be difficult to find a space when it is crowded).
  • Seasonal Events: In addition to the Red Spider Lily Festival, there are also local food stalls and vendors where you can sample local specialties.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)

  • Nearest station: About a 10-minute walk from Koma Station on the Seibu Ikebukuro Line (directions are available from the station).
  • Public transportation: The Seibu Ikebukuro Line is easily accessible from the city center. We recommend using the train during peak tourist seasons when it gets crowded.
  • By car: You can also visit by car. There are parking lots around the park, but they often fill up during the peak season for viewing red spider lilies and festivals, so we recommend using public transportation and arriving early.
  • Other: Temporary traffic restrictions and parking information may be in place during the event. Please check the latest information from official sources or local government agencies before visiting.

Estimated stay (estimated time required)

  • Short walks: 30 minutes to 1 hour
  • Leisurely sightseeing and photography: 1-2 hours
  • Including a picnic and sightseeing: 2-4 hours

Nearby spots

  • Koma Shrine: A historic shrine within walking distance of Kinchakudan. It's an easy spot to stop by while strolling around.
  • Saiboku Ham: A popular food and direct sales spot near Hidaka City. Convenient for meals and souvenir purchases (recommended for those using a car).
  • Hiking trails in the Hanno and Oku-Musashi area: If you go a little further, you'll find several mountain climbing and hiking trails, allowing you to extend your nature walks.

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)

  • Crowds: The peak season for viewing red spider lilies (especially on weekends, holidays, and during the equinox period) can be extremely busy. We recommend using public transportation and visiting early in the morning or on a weekday.
  • Parking: Temporary parking lots will be set up during the festival, but they fill up quickly. Please avoid parking on the street as it will cause a nuisance to the local community.
  • Protecting flowers and vegetation: Do not uproot or remove flowers or bulbs. Do not enter restricted areas.
  • Pets: Pets are allowed in most areas, but they must be kept on a leash and their waste must be disposed of. There may be restrictions during events.
  • Safety precautions: The riverside can be unsteady and muddy in places. Wear comfortable walking shoes and be careful as the trail can be slippery after rain.
  • Plant toxicity: Red spider lily bulbs are poisonous. Be especially careful with small children to prevent them from accidentally putting them in their mouths.
  • Other manners: Please follow local rules, such as taking your trash home with you, smoking in designated areas, and checking in advance as drone use may be restricted.

Before visiting, it's a good idea to check the official website or Hidaka City's tourist information for the latest flowering status, event information, and traffic restrictions. The beautiful red spider lilies are especially spectacular, so please be sure to plan your visit with ample time and proper etiquette.
