Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Mount Omuro is a cone-shaped dormant volcano located in Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture, with an elevation of approximately 580m. Its distinctive rounded shape, created by volcanic activity, and the large crater (bowl) at the summit make it stand out from the surrounding landscape. The mountainside is covered with grasslands, and the pampas grass is particularly beautiful in autumn, allowing visitors to enjoy different views with each season.

Tourists can take a lift from the base of the mountain to the summit and enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view by walking around the crater on a walking trail (Ohachi Meguri). On clear days, you can see Sagami Bay, the Izu Seven Islands, and even Mount Fuji in the distance, making it a popular photo spot. The mountain is also famous as a local event, with the annual "Yamayaki" (mountain burning) taking place (early spring, around February).

Highlights

  • A magnificent panorama from the summit: Sagami Bay, the Izu Islands, and if the weather is good, Mt. Fuji.
