Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Yumenoshima Park (Koto Ward, Tokyo) is an urban park created by developing reclaimed land off the coast of Tokyo Bay. Known as an example of former reclaimed land being converted into green space and recreational facilities, its greatest appeal is the open feeling of being close to the sea while still being close to the city center. The park includes a large lawn, sports facilities, barbecue areas, and the Yumenoshima Tropical Botanical Garden, which is equipped with a greenhouse, making it suitable for strolling, leisure, and learning throughout the year. In addition to being a place to relax and feel the sea breeze, it is also popular as a place to bring children, play sports, and take photos.

Highlights

  • Yumenoshima Tropical Botanical Garden (Greenhouse): A great place to enjoy tropical and subtropical plants and orchids, even on rainy days (fees apply and opening hours apply).
  • Lawn square and walking path: Enjoy a picnic or a leisurely stroll on the spacious lawn. There is also a walking course with views of the sea.
  • Sports facilities: There are baseball fields, multi-purpose fields, tennis courts, and other facilities, so many people visit for exercise. Tournaments and events are sometimes held here.
  • barbecue area: There is a barbecue facility that requires a reservation, making it convenient for groups (check the official website for terms of use and reservation methods).
  • Seaside view: You can enjoy views of Tokyo Bay and the bayside, and it is also a popular spot for taking photos of sunsets and night views.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)

  • Nearest station: Shin-Kiba Station (JR Keiyo Line, Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line, Rinkai Line).
  • Walking: It takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes to walk from Shinkiba Station to the park entrance (depending on the route and walking speed).
  • Bus/Car: Local buses and metropolitan buses run through the area. If you are visiting by car, you can use the parking lots in the park or in the surrounding area, but it can get crowded on weekends, so we recommend using public transportation.
  • Note: You are free to wander around the park itself, but each facility, such as the tropical botanical gardens, sports facilities, and barbecue areas, may have different opening hours, usage rules, and fees, so please check the official website in advance for the latest information.

Estimated stay (estimated time required)

  • Short walk: 30 minutes to 1 hour (walking around the seaside and taking a break on the grass)
  • Touring the highlights: 2-3 hours (visiting the greenhouse + stroll + snacks)
  • Active: Half a day to full day (sports, barbecues, photography, etc.)

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)

  • congestion: The area may be crowded on weekends, public holidays, and during tourist seasons (spring and summer vacations, etc.). Barbecue areas and parking lots fill up particularly quickly, so we recommend making reservations in advance and arriving early.
  • Facility Usage Rules: Barbecue areas, greenhouses, and sports facilities have usage rules and require fees or reservations. Please take your trash home or to a designated area, and observe proper etiquette when using fire and making noise.
  • Pets and bicyclesPets must be kept on a leash and must adhere to the rules of designated areas. Please also check the rules for riding and parking bicycles.
  • Seasonal precautionsIn summer, the sun and humidity can make you hot, so take precautions against heatstroke (wear a hat and stay hydrated), and in winter, the sea breeze can be chilly, so take precautions against the cold. In spring, pollen can have an effect.
  • Safety/disaster prevention:As this is a coastal area, it can be dangerous during strong winds, high tides, and typhoons. Please follow weather information and evacuation instructions from the park.
