Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Chatan American Village (Chatan Town, Nakagami District, Okinawa Prefecture) is a large, multi-purpose commercial and entertainment complex modeled after an American seaside town. Originally an area associated with a U.S. military base and port, it was developed as a waterfront town with commercial facilities, restaurants, and entertainment as part of its tourism development. With rows of colorful American-style shops, a Ferris wheel, a wide promenade, and a beach (Sunset Beach) with beautiful sunsets, it's an attractive place to enjoy shopping and cafes during the day, and live music and bars at night. It's a popular spot not only with domestic and international tourists, but also with people associated with the nearby U.S. military base, and is characterized by its international atmosphere.
