Rokuharamitsu-ji Temple (Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture)
Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Rokuhara Mitsuji Temple is an ancient temple located in the Rokuhara district of Higashiyama, Kyoto, and its name comes from Rokuhara, which means "six paramitas (giving, keeping the precepts, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom)." The temple has a history dating back to the Heian period, and is known for its collection of Buddhist statues and temple treasures, including those from the Kamakura to Muromachi periods, which have been designated as national treasures and important cultural properties. While the temple grounds are not large, they are quietly nestled in the old townscape, and their appeal lies in the fact that they allow visitors to experience the faith and historical sites of the Heian to Kamakura periods.
