Sendai Uminomori Aquarium (Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture)

Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
The Sendai Umino-Mori Aquarium was established in the Sendai Port area as one of the hubs for reconstruction and exchange following the Great East Japan Earthquake, and opened in 2015. It features exhibits that introduce the marine environment of Tohoku, focusing on the waters off the Sanriku coast, and focuses on exhibits focusing on local marine life, as well as educational and conservation activities. Its appeal lies in its diverse range of attractions that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike, including the large Sanriku Large Aquarium, dolphin and sea lion performances, touch pools, and jellyfish exhibits. It also serves as a place for learning about the earthquake and reconstruction, and many visitors visit for educational purposes as well as sightseeing.
