overview
Chusonji is an ancient Tendai Buddhist temple founded in the Heian period, and is famous for its Golden Hall, which tells the story of the prosperity of the Oshu Fujiwara clan. The beautiful mother-of-pearl and lacquer decorations, donated through donations, have been preserved, and in 1998 it was registered as a World Heritage Site as "Hiraizumi - A Cultural Landscape Based on Pure Land Buddhism." The tranquil rows of cedar trees and seasonal scenery are also attractive.

It is about a 20-minute walk from JR Hiraizumi Station, about 15-20 minutes by bus or taxi from Ichinoseki Station on the Tohoku Shinkansen line, and about 25 minutes by car from Ichinoseki IC on the Tohoku Expressway.

Points to note
Please check in advance as some facilities have limited viewing hours. In autumn, when the leaves change color, the temples can get crowded and the stone steps can be slippery, so please wear comfortable shoes.
