Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Mikata Goko Lakes is a scenic spot made up of five lakes spread across Mihama Town (Wakasa region) in Fukui Prefecture. It features a unique topography where freshwater, brackish water, and seawater coexist, separated by inlets and sandbars created by the land and sea, and has long been known for its rich fishing and tidal flat ecosystems. The surrounding area is designated as Wakasa Bay Quasi-National Park, and its major attractions include the ability to enjoy seasonal scenery and the panoramic view of the five lakes and Wakasa Bay from the observation deck.
