Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Mishima Skywalk is a pedestrian-only suspension bridge in Mishima City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and is known as one of the longest suspension bridges in Japan (with a total length of approximately 400m). Since it opened in 2015, it has gained popularity for its views of Mt. Fuji, Suruga Bay, the Hakone mountain range, and the beautiful valley surrounded by lush greenery. On clear days, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Mt. Fuji in the distance, and the view is particularly impressive during the evenings and when the sea of clouds appears, making it a popular choice among photography enthusiasts and tourists alike.

Highlights

  • The thrill and spectacular views of the suspension bridge: The bridge is long, and the view from near the center is open, offering a panoramic view of Mt. Fuji, Suruga Bay, the Hakone mountain range, and more. You can enjoy the unique swaying motion even on windy days (safety measures are in place).
  • Photo Spots: There are many photo spots on the bridge and observation deck. Photos with Mt. Fuji in the background on clear days are popular. Early mornings and evenings have good lighting angles, making for dramatic photos.
  • Nearby facilities: There are cafes, restaurants, souvenir shops, walking paths, and more, so you can relax not only on the bridge but also in the surrounding area. Nature experience events and seasonal events are sometimes held.
  • Family-friendly facilities: There are often playgrounds and open spaces for children, making it a fun place for families to enjoy (the facilities vary depending on the season).

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)

  • Nearest station: Mishima Station on the JR Tokaido Main Line and Tokaido Shinkansen. Mishima Station is also a Shinkansen stop, making it easily accessible from the Tokyo metropolitan area.
  • Shuttle bus: Direct shuttle buses often operate from Mishima Station, taking approximately 15 to 25 minutes (operating hours and frequency vary depending on the season). Please check the official website or information in advance to confirm the timetable.
  • Taxi/Rent-a-Car: Approximately 15-25 minutes by taxi from Mishima Station. From the Tomei Expressway or Shin-Tomei Expressway, it is approximately 20-30 minutes by car from the nearest interchange. Parking is available on-site (number of spaces and fees vary by facility).
  • Public transport note: There are times when buses and shuttles are less frequent, so we recommend checking timetables if using public transport.

Estimated stay (estimated time required)

  • Just the round trip to the bridge and taking photos: 30-45 minutes
  • Relaxing stay including cafe visits and strolls around the area: 1.5 to 2.5 hours
  • Participating in an event or touring the surrounding area: Half a day to a full day

Nearby spots

  • Mishima Taisha Shrine: A historic shrine located in the center of Mishima City. It is a spot that can be easily combined with worship and walking around the city.
  • Rakujuen: A Japanese garden near Mishima Station, perfect for strolling and visiting the gardens.
  • Numazu Port and Numazu Fish Market: A spot where you can enjoy gourmet seafood. Accessible by car or train from Mishima.

  • Gotemba Premium Outlets: Recommended if you want to combine shopping with sightseeing (convenient to travel by car).

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)

  • Crowds: The area tends to get crowded on weekends, public holidays, and during tourist seasons (cherry blossom viewing in spring, Golden Week, autumn leaves, and when Mt. Fuji is in full bloom in winter). Please be considerate of others and do not monopolize the area for long periods of time while taking photos, as this can be a nuisance to others.
  • Weather conditions: The bridge may be closed for safety reasons in the event of strong winds, heavy rain, or lightning. Please check the official operating information and weather forecast before visiting.
  • Measures for heights and shaking: If you are not good with heights or are sensitive to shaking, do not push yourself and do not go to the edge, stop walking if you feel shaking, and act according to your physical condition.
  • Clothing and shoes: Comfortable walking shoes (sneakers, etc.) are recommended. Please take measures to protect yourself from the cold on windy days and according to the season.
  • Pets and strollers: There may be rules regarding the handling of pets and strollers. Please follow the instructions of the facility (we recommend checking in advance).
  • Drone and photography rules: Flying drones without permission is prohibited in principle. There may be restrictions on commercial photography and the use of tripods, so please check in advance.
  • Fees and payment methods: Tolls and entrance fees may be required. Please check the official website for local payment methods (cash, card, etc.) and discount information.

*The latest business information (opening hours, admission fees, shuttle bus operation status, events, etc.) is subject to change. We recommend checking the latest information on Mishima Skywalk's official website or social media before visiting.
