Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Ningle Terrace is a walking spot with a series of small wooden cottages (handmade workshops and shops) lined up in the woods near the New Furano Prince Hotel in Furano, Hokkaido. Dozens of huts are dotted along the forest paths, each selling crafts made with Hokkaido materials and the sensibility of their makers, such as furniture, glass, pottery, accessories, and candles. The scenery that blends in with nature throughout the seasons and the fantastic atmosphere that is colored at dusk and with illuminations in winter are its major attractions. Admission is generally free, so you can drop in casually as if you were taking a stroll.

Highlights

  • Sunlit Path: The narrow pathway that feels like a stroll through the forest and the row of wooden cottages make for a photogenic landscape.
  • Unique craft shops: You can find one-of-a-kind items that can only be purchased here, such as glasswork, woodwork, cloth accessories, leather goods, accessories, and candles made by local artists.
  • Seasonal Appearance: The scenery changes dramatically depending on the season you visit, with fresh greenery, lavender, autumn leaves, and snow. In winter, the park is lit up, creating a beautiful contrast between the snow and the lights.
  • Cafes and snacks: There are also small cafes and stores offering drinks, allowing you to take a break in the forest (opening times vary by store).
  • Perfect for gift-hunting: There are many handmade souvenirs and gifts, making for a truly special shopping experience.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)

  • Nearest station: JR Furano Station (Furano city center)
  • Bus: Take the bus from Furano Station bound for "Shin Furano Prince Hotel" and get off at the bus stop nearest to the hotel or Ningle Terrace. The number of buses and times vary depending on the season, so we recommend checking in advance.

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)

  • Opening hours and closing days: Opening hours of each store vary depending on the season. Not all stores are open year-round, so please check with official information or the facility before visiting.
  • Crowds: It gets crowded on weekends, holidays, during the summer vacation season, and when the lavender is in full bloom. If you want to take photos or shop at your leisure, we recommend visiting on a weekday morning or early afternoon.
  • Winter precautions: Snow and ice can make the sidewalks slippery. We recommend wearing warm, slip-resistant shoes and warm clothing. The area tends to be crowded during the winter illuminations.
  • Accessibility: There are many wooden paths and stairs, and some areas may be difficult for wheelchairs or strollers. Please be aware of steps and narrow passages.
  • Photography etiquette: You may take photos of the scenery and buildings, but please ask for permission or be considerate when taking photos of other visitors, artists, or products in the store.
  • Payment methods: Some small, independent shops only accept cash. Acceptance of credit cards and electronic payments varies by store, so we recommend bringing cash.
  • Pets allowed: While pets are allowed to roam outside, they may be prohibited or restricted from entering the store. Please check in advance if you are bringing pets.

*The latest opening hours, access information, and events (illumination, etc.) change with the seasons. Please check the official website or accommodation information for the latest information before visiting.
