Sanrio Puroland (Tama City, Tokyo)

Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Sanrio Puroland is an indoor theme park themed around Sanrio characters that opened in December 1990 in Tama City, Tokyo. One of its biggest attractions is being able to get up close and personal with popular Sanrio characters, including Hello Kitty, and as it's an all-weather facility, you can have fun even on rainy days. It offers a wide range of character shows, parades, greetings, and character-themed dining, shopping, making it a popular spot not only for families with children, but also for adult fans and couples.

Highlights

  • Character Show Parade:There are many musical shows and parades. The productions, dances, and music are all worth watching, so you can enjoy them over and over again. The performance schedule varies depending on the day, so we recommend checking in advance.
  • Character Greetings:There are times and areas where you can take photos directly with the characters. Popular times can get crowded, so be sure to line up early or check if there is a numbered ticket system.
  • Attractions:The park mainly features rides and interactive attractions for small children, making it fun for the whole family. As it is indoors, it is not affected by the weather.
  • Food & Cafe:There are plenty of limited-edition menus and sweets with character motifs, and many photogenic dishes that are perfect for taking commemorative photos.
  • shop:The official shop, which stocks limited edition goods, regional items, and collaboration products, is the perfect place to look for souvenirs.
  • Photo Spot:There are lots of cute decorations and sets, and plenty of photo spots. The decorations for each seasonal event are also a must-see.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)

  • Nearest station:Tama Center Station (served by the Keio Line, Odakyu Line, and Tama Toshi Monorail). It is about a 3-7 minute walk from the station. Access from multiple lines makes it relatively convenient from the city center.
  • Approximate distance from major stations:It takes about 30 to 40 minutes by train from Shinjuku (this may vary depending on transfers and the train you take). Please check the transfer information for travel times from various locations in central Tokyo.
  • Access by car:There are paid parking lots and parking lots at commercial facilities in the surrounding area, but they often fill up during busy times, so we recommend using public transportation. If you are coming by car, please check the parking information in advance.
  • others:If you are visiting in a group or using a stroller, it is a good idea to check the official website for barrier-free information at the entrance and inside the building.

Estimated stay (estimated time required)

  • First time visitors/those wanting to enjoy multiple shows and greetings: Half a day to a full day (approximately 3 to 6 hours)
  • If you want to enjoy a show, dining, and shopping: 1 day (6 hours or more)
  • Please allow plenty of time in your schedule as waiting times will increase during busy times.

Nearby spots

  • Parthenon Tama:A cultural facility where concerts, exhibitions and events are held, it is a landmark of Tama Center.
  • Tama Central Park:A plaza perfect for strolling and resting. You can also enjoy seasonal flowers and events.
  • Shopping malls (Cocolia Tama Center, etc.):It is convenient for families as you can shop, eat, drink, and watch movies.
  • Tama Zoological Park:It is accessible by car or train, and we recommend combining your visit with a visit to the zoo (travel time will vary depending on the mode of transportation).

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)

  • congestion:The park gets extremely crowded on weekends, public holidays, long school holidays (spring, summer, and winter holidays), and on event days. Popular shows and greetings can sell out before they even begin, so be sure to arrive early, get a numbered ticket, and check the official timetable.
  • ticket:Advance online reservations and e-ticket purchases are convenient and will reduce waiting times. Depending on sales, there may be limited tickets available on the day.
  • photo shoot:Generally, photography is permitted, but please refrain from using flash photography during the show or taking photos that may disturb others. Please follow the rules for character greetings (such as the order in which to greet characters and how to interact with them).
  • Manners:Please be considerate of other customers and cast members and do not cut in line. There may be restrictions on the use of large luggage and tripods.
  • Season/Clothing:Although it is an indoor facility, the temperature inside the building can rise when it is crowded. We recommend wearing a light jacket and clothing that is easy to adjust. Also, infection prevention measures and facility policies (such as wearing masks) change depending on the season, so please check the official website in advance for the latest information.
  • Access time:Please be aware of changes to public transport times and schedules, as well as special schedules for the New Year holidays.

Tips

  • Check the official website in advance for the show schedule, crowd forecast, and ticket information for the day.
  • Popular greetings and shows can have people lining up before they start, so if there's a program you want to see, be sure to act early.
  • Limited edition goods and popular menu items may sell out, so if there's something you want, head to the shop early.

*Please be sure to check the official website for the latest opening hours, fees, event information, character appearance schedules, etc.
