Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Suntory Hakushu Distillery is a whiskey distillery surrounded by the lush forests of Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture (at the foot of the Southern Alps). Founded in 1973, it is known as the "Forest Distillery." Taking advantage of the clear spring waters of the Southern Alps and the climate of the vast forests, it has produced the single malt "Hakushu," characterized by its fresh, herbaceous aroma.

The buildings and grounds are designed to blend in with nature, and one of the great attractions is being able to stroll among the trees and clear streams. On the distillery tour, you can see the manufacturing process and the aging warehouse (cask yard), and at the attached tasting counter you can enjoy tastings of limited edition products and a wide range of products.
