Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Sunshine Aquarium is an urban aquarium located within the Sunshine City complex in Ikebukuro, Toshima Ward, Tokyo. Taking advantage of its unique rooftop location, the aquarium features open-air exhibits based on the concept of an "oasis in the sky." Since the opening of Sunshine City, it has been popular with locals and tourists alike for many years, and has undergone major renovations in recent years, with the aim of promoting outdoor exhibits and creating more visually appealing exhibits.
Its appeal lies in the wide variety of attractions it offers, including the open feeling that only a rooftop can offer, the view of the animals against the backdrop of the cityscape, the outdoor penguin exhibit, the soothing jellyfish exhibit, and hands-on programs for children. There are also many photogenic spots, making it suitable for families, couples, and solo travelers.
