Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Ebino Plateau is a highland area located in Ebino City, Miyazaki Prefecture. It is a tourist spot that is part of the Kirishima mountain range (Kirishima-Kinkowan National Park) and is known for its attractive volcanic topography and highland scenery. The plateau is roughly 1,200 meters above sea level, and you can enjoy the natural scenery of crater lakes (such as Onamiike Pond) created by volcanic activity, fumarolic areas, vast marshes, and coniferous and broadleaf forests.

Historically, it has long been a popular place for mountain worship and hot springs, and in modern times it has been developed as a base for nature observation, mountain climbing, and sightseeing. It has a rich variety of seasonal scenery, with autumn foliage, fresh greenery and azaleas in spring, and snowy winter scenery being particularly popular. The refreshing plateau climate and the views from the observation points are its biggest attractions.

Highlights
