Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Tsuruma Park is a historic urban park located in the heart of Nagoya City, beloved by locals as an urban oasis. Over the years since its opening, the park has been equipped with green spaces, flower beds, ponds, and plazas, and its appeal lies in the diverse scenery it displays with each season. It is particularly known as a famous cherry blossom viewing spot, and is bustling with visitors during the spring flower viewing season. The park is also notable for the size and variety of its rose garden, and events are sometimes held in the spring and autumn to coincide with the roses' peak viewing season.

Highlights

  • Cherry blossom trees: There are many cherry blossom trees in the park, making it a popular spot for cherry blossom viewing in the spring. There are also years when the cherry blossoms are lit up at night (events vary from year to year).
  • rose garden: A wide variety of roses are planted here, and you can enjoy the fragrance and colors during the flowering season. It is also recommended as a photo spot.
  • Pond and fountainThe floating water surface of the pond and the surrounding plants are perfect for a stroll, and you can also relax on the benches.
  • Square and lawn area: There is an open space perfect for picnics and children to play in (please be mindful of etiquette when reserving a spot when it is crowded).
  • Walking paths, sculptures, etc.: You can enjoy seasonal flowers, sculptures, and monuments while walking along the promenade. It is also a great place to observe nature in each season.

  • train: Just a short walk from Tsurumai Station on the JR Chuo Main Line and Tsurumai Station on the Subway Tsurumai Line. The park is adjacent to the station, making it very accessible.
  • busNagoya City Bus routes also pass through the area, so you can use them to suit your destination. Bus stop names vary depending on the route, so please check in advance.
  • Cars and parking: There are paid parking lots in the area, but they tend to fill up during peak times such as cherry blossom viewing, so we recommend using public transportation.
  • Bicycle/walk: It is easily accessible by bicycle or on foot from the city center, making it a convenient place to visit while exploring the surrounding area.

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)

  • congestion: The park is extremely crowded during cherry blossom season, rose season, Golden Week, etc. We recommend using public transportation and arriving early.
  • MannersPlease take your trash with you, open fires and barbecues are prohibited (permission may be required in some cases), dogs and other pets must be kept on a leash, and any waste must be taken home with you.
  • Facility use: There are toilets and benches, but they may be difficult to use when crowded. Access to some areas may be restricted when events are held.
  • Seasonal precautions: Be careful of the heat and insects (mosquitoes) in summer, and take measures to protect yourself from the cold in winter. In rainy weather, the ground can get muddy in some places, so we recommend wearing comfortable shoes.
