Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Toba Aquarium is a large, historic private aquarium located in Toba City, Mie Prefecture, which opened in 1955. With the lush seas of Ise-Shima as its backdrop, it features a wide range of creatures on display, from coastal creatures to rare deep-sea fish, marine mammals, and jellyfish. With a huge variety of species being kept and exhibited, along with exhibits that clearly communicate the local marine ecosystem and hands-on corners where you can touch and see the creatures up close, it's a place that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike. The adorable displays of marine animals such as sea lions, seals, and penguins, the fantastical displays of jellyfish, and the displays of the local Ise-Shima sea creatures are particularly popular attractions.

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)
- Crowds: The park tends to be crowded during Golden Week, summer vacation, autumn foliage season, and weekends, and entrance and parking may take time. We recommend arriving early during peak times and purchasing tickets in advance (if possible).
- Show schedule: Feedings and shows have set times, so be sure to check the official website or notices posted inside the museum in advance to make sure you don't miss anything. Seating and viewing space may be limited.
- Photography/Flash: Photography is permitted within the exhibits, but flash photography may be prohibited as it may irritate the animals. Please follow the warning signs.
– Touch pool rules: To avoid harming the creatures, please follow the instructions of staff and observe rules such as washing your hands and touching the animals.
– Climate and clothing: The museum mainly has indoor exhibits, but there may be outdoor exhibits or moving exhibits. In the summer, it can get crowded and hot even inside the museum, so it is convenient to wear clothes that are easy to put on and take off.
– Barrier-free: Wheelchairs and strollers are accessible, but some areas may have steps or narrow passageways. It is best to inquire in advance.
- Pets: In principle, pets are not allowed inside the building (with the exception of assistance dogs). Please be sure to leave pets in your car when you are away.
The above are general guidelines for planning your visit. Please check the official website in advance for the latest opening hours, closing days, admission fees, and event information. Have a nice trip!
