Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Takachiho Farm is a dairy farm and tourism facility located in Takachiho Town, Nishiusuki District, Miyazaki Prefecture. Surrounded by lush nature, the farm produces and processes dairy products, specializing in cheese and ice cream made with fresh milk. The farm's laid-back atmosphere, the opportunity to interact with animals, and the expansive grasslands make it a popular leisure destination for tourists and families. Another unique feature is the opportunity to experience the local dairy culture through experiential tourism linked to the local landscape (dairy product tasting and purchase, seasonal hands-on programs, etc.).

Highlights

  • Cheese Factory and Direct Sales Store: Sells dairy products such as cheese, yogurt, and soft serve ice cream made on the farm. The appeal is that you can taste freshly made products.
  • Soft serve ice cream and gelato: The soft serve ice cream, characterized by its rich milk, is popular with visitors. Seasonal flavors are sometimes available.
  • Interacting with animals: You can see livestock such as cows and sheep, and in some places you may be able to feed and interact with them (please check availability).
  • Ranch walks and photo spots: Enjoy walks and photography with the vast pastures and highland scenery as your backdrop. The views are often great on clear days.
  • Restaurant/snack corner: There may be dining facilities that offer menus and sweets made with ingredients from the farm.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)

  • Public transportation:

    • Bus: Take a local bus bound for Takachiho from Nobeoka Station or Miyazaki (operating company and number of buses vary depending on the season and day of the week) to the center of Takachiho. To get to the ranch, you can take a taxi or rental car from the bus stop, or check the nearest local bus stop.

  • Other: Tours and sightseeing buses are easily accessible. Public transportation is limited, so be sure to check timetables and information in advance.

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)

  • Crowds: Visitors increase on weekends, consecutive holidays, and summer vacation, and the parking lot, direct sales booth, and food and drink corner may become crowded. Please allow yourself plenty of time during peak times.
  • Business Hours and Closures: Facility business hours, regular holidays, and availability of experience programs may change depending on the season and day of the week, so please check the official website or call in advance.
  • Clothing and weather: As this is a highland area, the temperature can drop in the mornings and evenings. It is a good idea to bring warm clothing. Outdoor viewing may be restricted in the event of rain.
  • Manners when interacting with animals: When interacting with animals, follow the instructions of the staff and do not forcefully touch or feed them. If you are bringing children, make sure they are supervised by a parent or guardian.
  • Handling of takeaway/purchased items: Many dairy products need to be refrigerated, so please avoid carrying them for long periods of time or take measures to keep them cool.
  • Traffic conditions: Roads in mountainous areas may have curves and narrow sections. Please be mindful of your speed and be aware of icy and snowy roads in winter.

Check the official information (opening hours, access, experience reservation status, etc.) before your visit to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience. Take your time to enjoy the bounty of Takachiho's nature and farmland.
