Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Suma Seaside Park is a seaside park located in Suma Ward, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, and is a leisure spot with a bright sandy beach and views of the coastline. The park was developed from an area that has long been a popular seaside recreational spot for swimming and clam digging, and is bustling with people in the summer as a swimming beach. The park is centered around a sandy beach (Suma Beach), and features walking paths along the coast, a grassy area, playground equipment, and seasonal flower beds, making it popular with families, couples, and those enjoying jogs and strolls.

Highlights

  • Suma Beach (sand beach): The main spot with its white sandy beach and shoreline. In the summer, it is monitored and rescued, and is open as a swimming beach.
  • Seaside Promenade/Walking Path: A promenade where you can walk or jog while feeling the sea breeze. The sunset scenery is beautiful and it is also a popular photo spot.
  • Seasonal flower beds and lawn area: From spring to autumn, the area is lined with flowers and greenery, making it a great place for picnics and resting.
  • Suma Aqualife Park (adjacent): The nearby aquarium (Suma Aqualife Park) is recommended for families. Combine it with the park and you can enjoy a whole day there.
  • Viewpoints and photo spotsOn clear days, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the calm waters of the Seto Inland Sea, the silhouettes of offshore islands, and the sunset. The sunset in particular is not to be missed.

  • trainIt's about a 10-15 minute walk from Suma Station on the JR Kobe Line (Sanyo Main Line). It's also accessible from Sanyo Electric Railway's Sanyo Suma Station, Sumaura Koen Station, and Tsukimiyama Station, but the walking time varies depending on the station.
  • bus: Kobe City Bus and Sanyo Bus routes pass through the area, and it is within walking distance from the nearest bus stop (the bus stop name varies depending on the route).

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)

  • congestion: The beaches are extremely crowded during the summer swimming season (especially on weekends and during the Obon holidays). Parking lots, toilets, and first aid stations are expected to be crowded, so we recommend using public transportation and arriving early.
  • Maritime Safety: There are periods when swimming is supervised and rules are in place. Please follow the swimming zone and instructions of lifeguards, and avoid swimming too hard at your own risk. Be aware of rip currents and sea conditions.
  • Garbage MannersPlease take your trash home with you or dispose of it in designated areas. Please follow the rules regarding smoking areas and whether or not BBQs and fireworks are permitted (unauthorized BBQs and fireworks may be prohibited in some areas).
  • Pets: There may be restrictions on bringing dogs depending on the location and time. Please be sure to keep them on a leash and dispose of their waste.
  • Seasonal precautions: In summer, it is necessary to take measures against heatstroke and sunburn. In spring, there are windy days and the sea breeze can be cold, so be careful about what you wear. Also, be careful of marine life such as jellyfish and seaweed.
  • Equipment information: There are toilets and changing rooms, but you may have to queue during peak seasons. It's best to check in advance.

Suma Seaside Park is a spot where you can casually enjoy the atmosphere of the sea and port town. It changes with the seasons, so please take the time to visit depending on your purpose.
