Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Kajo Park is a popular public recreation area in the center of Yamagata City, Yamagata Prefecture, based on the ruins of Yamagata Castle (Kajo), which was constructed during the Edo period. The park has a history of being built by the Mogami clan (particularly Mogami Yoshimitsu) during the Sengoku and Edo periods, and remnants of the stone walls and moats remain within the park. With a large lawn, forests, and seasonal flowers to enjoy, it is a popular spot for strolls, picnics, and photography. The cherry blossoms in spring and the autumn leaves are particularly spectacular, and local events and festivals are frequently held here.

- Crowds: It gets very crowded during the cherry blossom season in spring, the autumn foliage season, and on weekends. Parking lots tend to fill up quickly, so we recommend using public transportation and arriving early.
- Manners: Please observe basic manners in the park, such as taking your trash with you, not damaging flowers and plants, and following the rules regarding barbecues and the use of fire.
- Pets: You can take them for walks, but please follow the rules, such as keeping them on a leash and cleaning up their droppings.
- Seasonal precautions: In winter, snow and ice can make the sidewalks slippery, so we recommend taking measures to protect yourself from the cold and wearing non-slip shoes. In spring and autumn, be careful of the sun and temperature changes.
- Check facility information: Events within the park and opening hours of some facilities may change, so please check official information and tourist guides in advance for the latest information.
