Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Kagamiike Pond is a small pond located in Hakuba Village, Kitaazumi District, Nagano Prefecture. On clear days, the Hakuba mountain range is clearly reflected on the water's surface, creating a "mirror-like" landscape, which is its greatest attraction. It is said to have originally been formed from the accumulation of agricultural reservoirs and spring water, and has been a beloved local sight for many years. The contrast between the autumn leaves, fresh greenery, and remaining snow is particularly beautiful in the early mornings and on windless days, making it a popular photo spot.
Highlights
- Reflection of the Hakuba mountain range: On clear, windless days, the Hakuba Sanzan (Mt. Hakuba, Mt. Shakushi, and Mt. Hakuba Yari) are clearly reflected on the water's surface, creating a picturesque landscape.
- The four seasons have different faces: lingering snow and fresh greenery in spring, deep green in summer, the surrounding trees changing color in autumn, and a snowy landscape in winter - each season has its own unique charm.
- Sunrise and sunset: The calm of the morning and the red of the evening are reflected on the water's surface, making for dramatic photos.
- Walking path and photo spot: There is a walking area around the pond, where you can take photos and enjoy the view while changing the composition. The quiet environment allows you to enjoy the sounds of nature.
Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)
- Nearest station: Hakuba Station on the JR Oito Line is the most convenient base.
- Public transportation: From Hakuba Station, you can access the area by local bus or taxi. The number of buses and times vary depending on the season, so please check the timetable in advance.

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)
- Crowds: During the tourist season (especially during the autumn foliage season, holidays, and weekends), the number of visitors increases, and parking lots and photo spots can get crowded. Visiting early in the morning or on a weekday will allow for a more relaxed viewing experience.
- Manners: To protect the natural scenery, please be sure to take your trash with you and stay out of restricted areas. Be careful not to trample on vegetation or the ground.
- Drones: These may be prohibited or restricted by aviation laws or local regulations. Please check and obtain permission in advance.
- Weather and clothing: As this is at the foot of the mountain, the weather is changeable and it can get chilly in the mornings and evenings. Please bring warm clothing and rain gear.
- Winter precautions: Road closures and access restrictions may occur due to snow accumulation and frozen roads. Be sure to bring winter gear (studless tires, chains) and check the latest road information.
- Wildlife and insects: In the summer, there is a possibility of insects and ticks, so we recommend wearing long sleeves, long pants, and insect repellent.
