overview

Kintaikyo Bridge is a five-arch wooden bridge spanning the Nishiki River. Its elegant appearance was restored using techniques from the Edo period, and it is known as a famous spot for viewing cherry blossoms and autumn leaves. The view of Iwakuni Castle and the valley from across the bridge is also appealing.

Highlights

  • Five wooden arches and traditional architectural beauty
  • Spring cherry blossoms, autumn leaves, and night illuminations
  • Photo spots from sightseeing boats and bridges

access

It's about a 15-minute bus ride or a 20-minute walk from JR Iwakuni Station, making it convenient for day trips from Hiroshima.

Estimated stay

A stroll around the bridge alone will take 1-2 hours, but if you include Iwakuni Castle and Kikko Park, it will take half a day to a full day.

Nearby spots

  • Iwakuni Castle (Iwakuni City)
  • Kikko Park (Iwakuni City)
  • White Snake Shrine (Iwakuni City)

Points to note

It is recommended to visit early in the morning as it can get very crowded during the peak cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons. Please be careful on rainy days as the wooden floors can be slippery, and please follow the signs and rules to preserve the area.
