Kongofukuji Temple is the 38th temple of the 88 sacred places of Shikoku, located near Cape Ashizuri in Tosashimizu City, Kochi Prefecture. According to legend, Kukai (Kobo Daishi) practiced asceticism here, and faith in the sacred place deepened. The temple is characterized by its wooden main hall and gate, as well as the magnificent panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean from the temple grounds, and the temple's solemn atmosphere harmonizes with the coastline with its rough waves crashing against the shore.
It is not only popular with pilgrims, but also as a scenic spot, with many people visiting to enjoy the ocean views, sunsets, and the nearby Cape Ashizuri Lighthouse and promenade. Located near the southwestern tip of Shikoku, it is attractive for its magnificent nature and religious culture to be experienced at the same time.

- The nearest major station is Nakamura Station (JR and Tosa Kuroshio Railway's hub station for the Nakamura area). It is common to get there by bus or car from the Nakamura or Sukumo area.
- Bus: Local buses run from Nakamura Station and Sukumo Station to Tosashimizu, but they are infrequent. Please check the timetable in advance (times may vary depending on the season and day of the week).
- By car: Approximately 3 hours from Kochi City via national and prefectural roads (depending on road conditions). Parking is available near the temple grounds, but be aware that there are limited spaces available during peak seasons.
- Tour and Access Tips: If you are using public transportation, be sure to check the number of buses and connections when planning your itinerary. Renting a car or taking a taxi is convenient and offers great flexibility.

- Limited public transport: Please be sure to check the timetable in advance as there are limited public transport (bus) services. There are especially few buses in the evenings.
- Weather and cold weather: The coast is windy and the weather changes rapidly, so bring a windproof jacket and rain gear. In summer, you'll need sun protection (a hat and sunscreen), and in winter, you'll need cold weather gear.
- Walking environment: The paths within the temple grounds and surrounding areas have stone steps, slopes, and areas that can be slippery when wet. Please wear comfortable shoes.
- Worship etiquette: Please be quiet in temples and be considerate of other worshippers. When offering sutras, incense, or candles, please follow the instructions and signs.
- Parking and Crowds: Parking lots and surrounding roads are congested during peak tourist seasons and holidays. We recommend avoiding early mornings and evenings, or consider using public transportation or tours.
