Echigo Yuzawa Onsen is a hot spring resort representing Yuzawa Town, Minamiuonuma District, Niigata Prefecture. It has been popular as a therapeutic hot spring resort since the Edo period, and with the development of the railway since the Meiji period, it has developed into a health resort and summer resort, and also as a base for a ski resort in the winter. Surrounded by the mountains of Echigo, the area offers beautiful natural scenery throughout the year, with seasonal attractions such as hot springs surrounded by snowy scenery, summer escapes, and autumn foliage.

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)
- congestion:Winter ski season, New Year's holiday, Golden Week, and other long weekends are extremely busy, so we recommend making reservations for bullet trains and accommodations early.
- Winter roads and clothing:As this area experiences heavy snowfall, be sure to bring studless tires or tire chains in winter. Non-slip shoes are also necessary when walking.
- Onsen Manners:Please observe general hot spring etiquette, such as washing your body with plenty of water before entering the bath, not putting towels in the bath, and avoiding monopolizing the bath for long periods of time. Regarding tattoos, each facility has different policies, so please check in advance.
- Language and Information:Tourist information and English support at some facilities may be limited. Small inns and restaurants in rural areas will primarily use Japanese, so it's a good idea to bring some basic Japanese phrases and a translation app.
- Disaster prevention and health:In winter, there is a possibility of traffic disruptions due to low temperatures and snow damage. Please check weather and traffic information frequently and make sure to plan your trip in a reasonable manner. Also, soaking in hot water for a long period of time can make you ill, so please be especially careful if you are elderly or have a chronic illness.
Echigo Yuzawa Onsen is an attractive tourist destination that combines hot springs with a mountain resort. You can easily visit on a day trip or stay overnight to relax, so plan your visit according to the season and your purpose.
