Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Fujiidera Temple is an ancient temple located in Fujiidera City, Osaka Prefecture, which has been a place of worship since ancient times. According to legend, the temple was founded in ancient times, and its principal image is said to be the Eleven-Faced Kannon. The principal image is kept secret and is only displayed for a limited time, making it even more precious to worshippers who visit on special occasions.

The temple is a famous site that gave the city its name, and is known for the tranquil atmosphere of its grounds and the seasonal flowers (especially the peonies in spring). With its historical atmosphere and charm as a place of worship for the region, it is popular with locals and pilgrims alike.

Highlights

  • Main image - Eleven-faced Kannon (secret Buddha): Normally closed to the public, it attracts many worshippers on special occasions.
  • Atmosphere of the temple grounds: With old stone towers, moss-covered approach paths, and quiet worship spaces, it is a great place for a stroll.
  • Peonies: The peonies that bloom in spring are a specialty of the park, and many people visit to see the flowers during their peak season.
  • Seasonal scenery: Enjoy the changing scenery of the seasons, including spring flowers, the greenery from early summer to autumn, and the autumn leaves.
  • Buddhist memorial services and events: Buddhist memorial services held at temples, such as Setsubun, Higan, and when the temple is open to the public, are a good opportunity to learn about local culture.
