Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Kegon Falls is a massive waterfall with a drop of approximately 97 meters located in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture, and is one of Japan's most famous waterfalls. The sight of the water flowing down the Daiya River, which is the outlet of Lake Chuzenji, changes with the seasons and has long been beloved by many painters and poets. Since the Edo period, it has been developed as a tourist destination, and since the Meiji period, it has become known as a famous spot among foreign tourists as well.
