Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Hanamiyama is a small hill in Fukushima City, Fukushima Prefecture, known as one of the city's most famous flower spots. Originally a privately owned orchard and garden, it was gradually developed into a popular tourist spot for locals. From early spring to spring, a variety of flowers, including cherry blossoms, plum blossoms, peaches, rape blossoms, azaleas, and magnolias, bloom one after another, turning the entire mountain into a vibrant patchwork of colors, creating a truly captivating sight. From the summit and slopes, you can enjoy panoramic views of Fukushima city and the surrounding mountains, making for a beautiful landscape perfect for photography and strolling.

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)

  • Crowds: The park is extremely crowded during the peak spring viewing period. On weekends and during peak times, you may have to wait for long periods for parking and shuttles, so we recommend visiting early in the morning or on a weekday.
  • Parking and traffic restrictions: Temporary parking lots and traffic restrictions may be implemented during peak times. Please follow the instructions of on-site signs and staff.
  • Manners: Please observe basic manners, such as not damaging flowers and plants, not entering restricted areas, and always taking your trash with you. Many areas are adjacent to private property, so trespassing on private property without permission is strictly prohibited.
  • Clothing and Preparation: Wear comfortable shoes as there are many undulating walking paths. Be careful as the trails can get muddy after rain. Don't forget to bring sunscreen and drinks.
  • Blooming period: The best time to see the flowers is usually from late March to mid-April, but this may vary depending on the weather. For the latest blooming information, please check Fukushima City's tourist information or local guides.
  • Photography etiquette during crowded times: Please be considerate of where you use a tripod and when occupying it for long periods of time so as not to disturb other visitors.
