Hosono Plateau is a highland area overlooking the sea in Higashiizu Town, Kamo District, Shizuoka Prefecture. It is a gently rolling hilly area with grasslands, famous for the scenery of swaying Japanese pampas grass, especially in autumn. With views of the majestic Izu Sea and Sagami Bay, and on clear days, Mount Fuji and the Izu Islands in the distance, it is a popular spot for photography, strolls, and picnics. Historically, the area has been used as a satoyama (satoyama forest), grazing land, and grassland, making it a tourist destination that makes the most of the landscape, and has been used for tourism while preserving the region's natural landscape.
Highlights
- Japanese silver grass (Autumn) - The ears of silver grass emerge between September and November, creating a magnificent golden landscape. The backlighting and sunsets in the evening are particularly beautiful.
- Panoramic views — From the open areas of the plateau, you can see Sagami Bay, the Izu Islands, and even Mount Fuji on clear days.
- Hiking Route — A gentle walking path has been established, making it easy even for beginners. There are small observation decks and benches scattered throughout the area.
- Photo spot - The scenery changes depending on the season and time of day, with the soft light of the morning, the golden color of the evening, and starry sky photography.

- Bus: The number of buses varies depending on the season and day, so please check the timetable in advance if you plan to use the bus.

- Taxis and rental bicycles: It is often possible to arrive at the venue in a short time from the station, so it is convenient to use a taxi or rental bicycle.

- Crowds: Visitors increase especially during the peak season for Japanese pampas grass (autumn) and on weekends and long weekends, so parking lots and roads can get crowded. Early morning and evening are relatively quiet times, and the scenery is beautiful.
- Manners: Please follow local rules such as always taking your trash with you, not collecting plants or taking them from areas other than designated areas, and refraining from making noise and using fire (such as barbecues).
- Clothing and equipment: You will need comfortable walking shoes as there will be grass and unpaved roads. Depending on the season, the wind can be strong and cold, so please bring something to wear over your clothes.
