Hakone Gora Park (Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture)
Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Hakone Gora Park is a Western-style urban park located in the Gora area of Hakone. While retaining the charm of a Western-style garden developed between the Taisho and Showa periods, it also features flower beds, fountains, greenhouses, and other features reminiscent of French formal gardens. The park is beautiful with flowers of all seasons, with roses, seasonal flowers, and tropical plants in the greenhouse being particular highlights. The garden also has a café and craft workshops, making it an attractive place to not only stroll around but also enjoy a craft experience and a break.
Highlights
- Formal gardens and fountains: The geometrically arranged flower beds and the central fountain are the symbols of the garden. There are many photo spots along the walking paths.
- Rose garden (seasonal flowers): The popular rose collection is in full bloom from spring to early summer and autumn. The colorful roses decorate the garden.
- Greenhouse (greenhouse display): Tropical and subtropical plants and seasonal potted plants are on display, so you can enjoy them even on rainy days or in cold seasons.
- Craft House (experience facility): You can try your hand at glass blowing, pottery and other crafts, and it's popular with families and couples (advance reservations may be required).
- Cafe and rest area: There is a space in the park where you can enjoy snacks and drinks, and relax while looking out at the gardens.
- Four Seasons Scenery: It shows a different look with each season, with spring flowers, summer greenery, autumn leaves, and the tranquil scenery of winter.
