Usui Third Bridge (Megane Bridge) / Annaka City, Gunma Prefecture
Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Usui Third Bridge (commonly known as Megane Bridge) is a red brick arch bridge that was once used on the old Shinetsu Main Line (over Usui Pass). A prime example of civil engineering construction built in the Meiji period, it was nicknamed "Megane Bridge" for its beautiful continuous brick arches and is highly regarded as a modern railway heritage site. Today, it can be viewed up close from the hiking trail "Apt Road" which uses the old railway tracks, and is a tourist spot where the changing seasonal scenery (fresh greenery, autumn leaves, snowy landscapes) is beautiful.
Highlights

- View from Apt Road: While walking along the footpath that follows the old railway line (a relatively well-maintained mountain path), you can enjoy taking photos of the entire bridge, as well as from various angles from above and below.
- Seasonal Appearance: The scenery changes dramatically with the seasons, from fresh greenery to deep greenery, autumn leaves, and snow-covered landscapes, and the autumn foliage season is especially popular.
