Tamatsukuri Onsen (Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture) is a hot spring resort that has long been known for its "beautiful skin water." According to legends and local records, it has been popular since ancient times, and the town is charming with its quiet atmosphere and relaxed atmosphere unique to Shimane. The water is gentle on the skin, and it is especially popular with women as it leaves skin feeling smooth after bathing. The area is dotted with inns and day-trip baths, and is also characterized by the opportunity to relax by the riverside or soak in a foot bath.

Tamatsukuri Onsen is located in Matsue City and can be accessed by both public transportation and private cars.

  • Train + Bus/TaxiAfter getting off at JR Matsue Station, take a local bus or taxi to the hot spring town (approximately 20-30 minutes). During the tourist season, there may be more direct access options.
  • carAccess via the San'in Expressway and national highways. From Matsue, it is close to Matsue-Tamatsukuri IC, and there are inns with parking lots and public parking lots. The travel time varies depending on the departure point, but it is generally about 20 to 30 minutes from central Matsue.
  • From the airport: You can get there from Izumo Enmusubi Airport or Yonago Airport by rental car, airport shuttle bus or train (takes about an hour).

  • Day trip: Foot bath and stroll around the hot spring town takes about 1 to 3 hours.
  • Accommodation (1 night): If you want to enjoy bathing in the hot springs from the evening into the night and then taking a morning bath the next morning, we recommend staying overnight.

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)

  • Climate and clothingShimane has four distinct seasons. It's best to prepare for the cold and snow in winter, and for the heat during the day and the chill at night in summer.
  • Regional Rules: This is a quiet hot spring town, so please refrain from making loud noises or causing a nuisance on the streets late at night. Also, please follow the rules for local events and facilities.
